Those in attendance would later enjoy a nail‐biting finish as Philippaerts secured the win with a jump off
time of 40.57 seconds.
Saturday’s win was a pleasant surprise for Philippaerts and a welcome challenge while transitioning the 9‐
year‐old Belgian Warmblood (Dulf Van Den Bisschop x Coronado) back into competition after six weeks off
following ‘The Masters’ tournament at Spruce Meadows in mid‐September.
“The first day he was here he was a bit nervous and a bit stressed, but then he was a lot better. Hopefully
next week will be a good week as well.”
Choosing to show at Tryon Fall V fit perfectly into Philippaerts’ fall tour and was a stop in his season that he
expressed was well worth the trip.
“I come every year to America and I saw this show was now before Washington. Normally I start with
Washington, Kentucky, and then Toronto. I looked and the show had good prize money, that’s why I also
came a week earlier and tried to compete here,” shared Philippaerts.
The $380,000 purse was surely a consideration for the 40 starters that took to Saturday’s 1.60m track. The
course set by Anthony D’Ambrosio resembled his courses set earlier in the week. Multiple combinations
were incorporated into the winding 13 fence course that utilized the expanse of the George H. Morris Arena.
By night’s end, only six would produce clear jumping efforts, four of them being women, while the remaining
34 would accrue jumping faults and/or fall victim to the 80 seconds time allowed.
